Better Late Than Never
My iPod was recently the lucky recipient of roughly 2,000 free songs, the majority of which are hip-hop. We're talkin both old school and new beats. Eazy-E to Big Pun to The Roots. I'm gonna go out on a limb and tell y'all that Jurassic 5's "Power in Numbers" is easily one of the top 10 hip-hop albums I've ever heard (Granted, it came out in 2002, but who's keeping track). The sound is totally unique and transcends many different genres of hip-hop. While it's got a little sumthin-sumthin for everyone, it's roots are firmly planted in old school. Nelly Furtado and Big Daddy Kane even make appearances on a few tracks. This album will put a smile on your face - I guarantee it or your money back! It's got fun beats, smart lyrics and a vibe that makes you want to listen to it over and over again (I listened to it 3x in a row when I first came across it on my playlist).
Speaking of fun, smart and unique, all of youz need to dust off Digable Planet's "Reachin" if you have it in your stash. Jazz hip hop at its finest. By the by, it looks like they're embarking on a reunion tour begining later this Spring.
