According to a recent study, San Francisco has the smallest share of children under the age of 18 of any major U.S. city -14.5% (roughly 110k). Even the gays have a stronger toe hold in the city at 20%! Prohibitively high family housing costs and a rapidly decaying public school system are tops on the list of causes. Believe it or not, even NYC has a higher proportion of children (24%).
